Dealing with an ant invasion inside

We have several pets here, including Eva's escapologist chinchilla Marmaduke the Second, whose aim in life is to hop down the corridor and into the lift. Apparently chinchillas are sensitive to draughts and this can cause ructions between Eva and Gladys, who likes to have all windows open virtually all the time. Eva fears that Marmaduke on his rambles will encounter a draught of deadly proportions.

Lucinda my cat is only disruptive to me, which doesn't count against her. She is very keen to keep me to a routine which delivers what she wants when she wants it meals, entertainment, her bedtime. Also, she doesn't like me to go out. If it appears that I am going to infringe any of these personal preferences she can convey disappointment, disapproval and reproach in a long hard stare from her large blue eyes.
