AN "EXCEPTIONALLY intense" air attack on Kyiv was thwarted today, Ukrainian air chiefs said, as Russia continued its bombardment of the capital

Loud explosions were heard across the city as it came under heavy fire in one of the largest attacks since Vladimir Putin launched his invasion in February last year.
Ukraine's commander-in-chief, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, said all 18 Russian rockets and drones were shot down during the bombardment.
He added that the attack was "exceptional in its density - the maximum number of attacking missiles in the shortest period of time".
Weapons, including drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, were intercepted, Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat said.
