SWIFT VERDICT NEEDED ON CHARGES TO STOP TITLE-RACE AND EURO QUALIFYING BECOMING MESS
PREMIER LEAGUE rivals are pushing for a swift verdict on Manchester City's alleged breach of more than 100 topflight rules, with fears over the ramifications for this season's title race and European qualification.
In a shock announcement yesterday, the Premier League accused City of 115 infringements across 14 seasons, following a four-year investigation into alleged financial irregularities and, given the complexity and breadth of the charges, the case is expected to rumble on into the summer.
However, there is a desire amongst clubs for the situation to be resolved by May in a bid to avoid lingering uncertainty over any punishment for the reigning champions, which, if they are found guilty, could include fines, points deductions or even relegation from the top flight.
