Climate action is the best gift we can give the next generation

Edinburgh Evening News

December 23, 2025

At this time of year many of us slow down, spend time with family and reflect on what really matters.

- Lorna Slater, Scottish Greens MSP

Christmas is a moment to look beyond day-to-day pressures and think about the kind of future we want for our children and grandchildren. That long term perspective is exactly what is needed when we talk about climate action. The climate crisis is not a distant problem or confined to other parts of the world. Here in Scotland we are already seeing its effects through more frequent flooding, extreme weather and growing pressure on food and energy costs.

These impacts hit hardest those who are least responsible, including young people who will live longest with the consequences of today’s decisions.
