Chapelcross energy plan takes major step forward

Milestone moment Terms signed to take forward ambitious plans for Chapelcross site

A key milestone has been reached in the drive to create a green energy hub masterplan in Dumfriesshire.

CX Power has been announced as the strategic developer to support the masterplan destined on land at the Chapelcross former nuclear power station site.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority group - the body tasked by the government with decommissioning the UK’s earliest nuclear sites safely, securely and sustainably - said it has entered into Heads of Terms with CX Power - an entity comprising of GA Consultants and Global Mutual Properties Limited, bringing expertise in planning and private finance, to help excelerate the delivery of the vision for the site.

The NDA claims the programme is “set to transform the region” with the privately funded, multi-million pound, net-zero focused development, to generate “several hundred high value jobs and attract skills and investment, driving growth in the local economy”.

The wider masterplan for the hub includes plans for hydrogen production, advanced manufacturing, and Al Enabled Data Centres.

NDA Group CEO, David Peattie, said: “CX Power coming on board is a significant step forwards, unlocking the combined potential of the public and private sector to accelerate the programme at Chapelcross.
