VICTIMS DESCRIBE HOW MASSIVE STORM TOOK EVERYTHING FROM THEM

Families left shattered after flood sweeps through homes

DOVER residents have spoken of their horror as more than a month’s worth of rain fell in just a few hours.

Lightning struck and thunder rumbled throughout the evening of Friday, June 13, as 67mm of rain fell on the town - the normal average rainfall for the entire month of June is just 55mm.

The storm intensified as it swept across the county, reaching the coast at about 8pm. Many people did not think to worry about it as they got their families ready for bed that night, unaware of the events about to unfold.

At least 30 people are believed to have had to leave their homes and were placed in temporary housing, and some report not knowing what is going to happen next.

Chloe and Victor were living in a basement flat with their two kittens, two snakes and a dog, were about to go to sleep when they heard sounds in their corridor.

Chloe got out of bed to investigate, only to be met with a wall of water flowing through the windows and front door.

The couple scrambled to gather their pets and belongings, with Victor fleeing the flat to seek help. He had to wade through waist-deep water, and described seeing cars floating down Folkestone Road.

Chloe, stuck inside the building, was terrified her beloved animals would perish.

She managed to stand on the bed with their dog, with her hands on the ceiling to prevent herself from being swept into the water.

Eventually, emergency services arrived on the scene to rescue Chloe and her animals.
