28 miles of unspoilt nature

THE weather forecast for Kent shows it's going to be a corker of a weekend - full sun on Saturday and much of Sunday, with top temperature at 22C on Saturday. So why not make the most of it with a visit to one of the county's gems?

This canal walk of 28 miles - no, you don't have to do all of it - has so much to offer. At this time of year it should be glorious, with flowers and trees, birds, swans and ducks - in fact all of nature will be full of the joys of early summer.

You will see Monet-like lily pads, water banks bursting with frothy white blooms and grasses, and a landscape with an ancient church which has hardly changed for centuries. The 28 miles is not all in Kent - this route takes you into East Sussex, but never strays too far from the sea, so you'll be filling your lungs with fresh, coastal air all the way.

The Royal Military Canal runs between Seabrook, near Folkestone, and Cliff End, near Hastings in East Sussex.
