PUPILS from a Derby school were given an insight into democracy in action during a visit to the Houses of Parliament, where they were greeted by Derby North MP Catherine Atkinson.

Twenty-one pupils from The Bemrose School, in Uttoxeter Road, travelled to London to explore the House of Commons and House of Lords.

During their guided tour, the students discovered fascinating facts about Parliament and democracy and took part in an interactive workshop on the importance of petitions.

Year 13 student Kader said: “Vistiing the Houses of Parliament really brought what I have learnt in school to life, it was truly incredible and seeing how small the House of Commons really is, shocked me.

“I would recommend it to anyone who gets the opportunity to go.”

Ms Atkinson, said: “It was a pleasure to meet the students from The Bemrose School and show them how Parliament works. They asked some brilliantly insightful questions and it was fantastic to see their enthusiasm.”
