TRAVELLERS getting in the holiday mood averaged 1,345 pints a day at East Midlands Airport last year.

The number of pints sold - just shy of half-a-million - easily eclipses cups of coffee sold as holidaymakers await departure.

The figures have been revealed after sales numbers from all the airport's bars and restaurants were crunched to discover the big departure lounge trends of 2024.

Away from drink, sandwiches were the most popular meal among its two million annual outbound passengers, with more than 1,000 bought per day at the Castle Donington airport over the year.

Of those, the trusty ham and cheese sandwich was the most popular , accounting for 10 per cent of the 390,028 packets sold at the airport's outlets.

It was closely followed by two other traditional favourites, chicken and bacon and BLT.

Other findings included:

Passengers drank 884 cups of coffee per day, totalling 322,670 over the year;
