Emotional win as Reid strikes gold

DERBY’S Chantelle Reid won gold as the GB Boxing squad came away with six medals from this year’s Strandja Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.

London’s Damar Thomas also claimed gold, while Lauren Mackie won silver and squad-mates Will Hewitt, Sacha Hickey and Patris Mughalzai came away with bronze.
It was a high-quality tournament that included entries from many of the world’s leading nations, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and the USA, and featured numerous boxers that starred and won medals at last year's World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool.
In the women’s light-middleweight (W70kg), Reid built on the form that saw her win a bronze medal at last year's World Boxing Championships, with four victories including a unanimous 5-0 win over Australia’s world silver medallist Lekeisha Pergoliti in the semifinals.
