Dad pleads for support to help Smile4Helena campaign after tragic death of daughter at 17

PETITION BIDS TO CLOSE 'GAP IN GOVERNMENT POLICY'

THE father of teenager who took her own life following exam results stress has launched a petition to help save lives.

Helena Markey died aged 17 in September 2015 shortly after having been distressed during an interview regarding her academic results and future options.

She was a pupil at The de Ferrers Academy in Burton, and the meeting was about which subjects she should drop before moving into year 13.

Now her dad Glen and mum Sharron have launched the petition campaign Smile4Helena, which would require schools to notify parents if a pupil is distressed by results feedback.

The campaign has also been backed by Burton and Uttoxeter MP Jacob Collier, who went to school with Helena.
