Equality Movement to Continue Year-Long: Dr. Harshadeep Kamble

Dr. Harshdeep Kamble, Principal Secretary of the Social Justice Department, announced that a yearlong campaign promoting equality will be undertaken to mark the centenary of the historic Mahad Chavdar Tale Satyagraha led by Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

He was speaking at an awareness programme organised by the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI), Pune, at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Memorial in Mahad on March 20, 2026.

Dr. Kamble highlighted that the Chavdar Tale Satyagraha was not merely a struggle for access to water, but a larger fight for equality, dignity, and justice. “It was a movement for human liberation, supported by people across castes and religions,” he said. He further informed that %55 crore has been sanctioned by the Social Justice Department for purification of the Chavdar Tale water, ensuring it becomes potable ahead of the centenary year through a dedicated water treatment project.
