Some of the most inspiring successes in South Africa come from communities where FARR implements the evidence-based Healthy Mother Healthy Baby Programme for pregnant women.

The success of this programme lies in its nonjudgmental, educational and supportive approach. Community-based involvement is another vital component. Through the nine months of pregnancy, postpartum and until their babies are nine months old, pregnant women and new mothers receive continuous support from FARR’s dedicated staff. To facilitate and strengthen sustainability in project areas, FARR operates in close liaison with professional service delivery operational in the area, as well as community and religious leaders, family members and peer networks. This not only serves to address the stigma about FASD, but also reinforces the message that no alcohol is safe during pregnancy.
