Snapper captures an unchanged way of life

These rare photographs capture aspects of traveller life unchanged through the centuries.The images were taken by German photographer Frederik Ruegger, who visited horse fairs in the UK and Ireland and who forged a close enough bond with the traveller communities that they allowed him to document their unique way of life.

Explaining how he gained their trust, Frederik says: "I think if you show up somewhere, no matter if it's a traveller community or anywhere else in the world, and you have good intentions and you are honest and open, then in 99% of cases you will receive the same thing back and that's exactly what happened."
