RUBY WALSH knows his way around Cheltenham better than anyone.

He has ridden more winners at the Festival than any other jockey (59) - a record that looks unattainable, although he reckons it will probably be beaten one day.

“Records are made to be broken.”

Walsh knows how to get the juices flowing when the “C word” is mentioned and comes alive at the mention of the greatest four days in the jump racing calendar.

“It's the quality of racing, the competitiveness and the venue. It is the one time it felt what it might be like to play in the Premier League.

“The noise, the expectation, the pressure. But it's the crowd that really makes it magical - between 55,000 and 70,000 people for four days and the noise they create.”

It is almost seven years since Walsh retired from the saddle after winning on Kemboy at Punchestown, but his enthusiasm for the sport is keenly felt in his role as a TV pundit.
