I've still got my eye on Grand Final glory

AS Grand Final week gets up and running, Stefan Ratchford finds himself battling with bitter-sweet memories.

The Warrington ace, who retired at the end of the regular season, had hoped to sign off his decorated career with elusive Old Trafford glory.

But the Wolves legend saw that dream dashed as Sam Burgess’ side crashed out of the playoffs reckoning, failing even to make the top six.

So, instead, Ratchford (inset) who made almost 400 appearances for the club, is left to look back on the ones that agonisingly got away.

The ex-England ace played and lost four Super League title deciders.

In 2012, Warrington were beaten 26-18 by Leeds, 12 months later they fell against Wigan and it was Ratchford’s hometown Warriors who defeated them twice more in 2016 and 2018.

The 37 year-old conceded: “A couple of times I almost thought we had it. 2016 and 2018 stand out as big ones.
