Struggling Castleford call time on McGuire

- by DAVE CRAVEN

CASTLEFORD sacked head coach Danny McGuire last night after less than nine months in charge.

Although the Tigers had been struggling for results, his exit still came as a big surprise.

But Martin Jepson (inset), who took ownership of the club last year, has shown his ruthless streak again by swinging the axe.

He fired Craig Lingard at the end of last season, putting assistant McGuire in charge instead on a three-year deal.

However, Castleford endured a shoddy start to the new campaign with a shock Challenge Cup exit to part-timers Bradford and they have picked up just four wins from 17 Super League games.

That has left them slumped in 10th spot and Thursday's dismal 30-12 home loss to 11th-placed Huddersfield was the final straw.
