KING OF THE ROAD

French King Louis XIX clocked up the shortest reign in royal history. The monarch, inset, born Louis Antoine, Duke of Angoulême, spent just 20 minutes on the throne before abdicating, after his dad Charles X stepped down in July 1830.

SPRING INTO SUMMER

The Eiffel Tower is 6in taller in the summer than during the winter. The 1,083ft Paris landmark, designed by Gustave Eiffel in 1887, is made of wrought-iron, which expands in the heat.
