Beached mammal 'first in UK' to survive

RESCUERS have saved a giant humpback whale which stranded itself on a beach in a rare incident.

It is believed to be first time a humpback has been saved from being beached on the country's coast.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) were alerted to the stranding off the coast of Southerness in Dumfries and Galloway as the tide was receding at around 3.30pm on Tuesday.
