A day at the seaside is a classic British activity, but sadly, many of its charming traditions are melting as quickly as a Mr Whippy, as families opt to jet off abroad instead.

DISTINCTIVE Pier opened in 1878

However, one seaside town in Wales still offers a range of old-fashioned holiday attractions and even hosts an annual festival dedicated to its Victorian heritage.

Llandudno has roots dating back to the Stone Age but the area saw significant growth during the Victorian era. Men flocked to the town to work in the copper mines, as well as in fishing and agriculture, and it was later developed into a seaside resort. The arrival of Llandudno railway station in 1858 brought large numbers of Victorian visitors to the coast in search of fresh air and relaxation.

That same year, a small wooden pier was added, giving visitors a place to stroll.

Around 20 years later, it was rebuilt as Llandudno Pier, which still stands today with its distinctive cast-iron railings and domed buildings.
