MP demands spending hike to protect Shetland and Orkney from sabotage

A SCOTTISH MP has demanded greater defence spending to protect Orkney and Shetland from Russia.

Alistair Carmichael said he is concerned his constituency would be vulnerable if attacked and urged the UK to take the threat “seriously”.

Military officers are said to have told MPs of fears for areas such as Orkney and Shetland.

The Lib Dem MP told the Record of his concerns about the “High North”, which includes the Arctic.
