SCREENING CALL FAILS TO PROTECT MEN

Appeal to take check and ask for test

SIR Chris Hoy's wife has slammed the decision to reject calls for a nationwide prostate cancer screening programme for millions of men.

Sarra Hoy called the decision by the UK National Screening Committee "terribly disappointing" and accused them of failing to protect men.

The committee refused to endorse widespread screening and instead advised focusing only on those with particular genetic mutations.

It says the PSA test for prostate cancer is not accurate enough for nationwide use and could "cause more harm than good", with too many men having unnecessary biopsies or surgery.
