United's heroes roar back from behind twice in Vienna to set up a Tannadice shot at glory

RAPID RESPONSE

DUNDEE UNITED produced another big performance against Rapid to keep their Conference League hopes alive.

The Tannadice side famously knocked Austrian giants Rapid out in the quarter-finals of the European Cup in 1984.

They had lost 2-1 in Vienna back then but last night Jim Goodwin's men went one better to grab a crucial draw.

Max Watters cancelled out Petter Dahl's opener and Zac Sapsford repeated the act after skipper Matthias Seidl had put Rapid back in front.

Now United will be looking to push through with home advantage.

The 1000-strong United support brought a nice touch of Tangerine to Vienna and it was a night they won't forget.

Boss Goodwin admitted he almost signed for Rapid as a player but the Irishman more than made his mark as he finally took his bow in the Allianz Stadion.

It proved to be a good night in Vienna for everyone connected with United.

MORE PAIN FOR UNITED AND PAPPOE

Goodwin and his squad were already down to the bare bones.

He confirmed before the game that Kristijan Trapanovski and Ryan Strain had both joined captain Ross Graham on the long-term injury list.

That came on the back of Amar Fatah and Dario Naamo not being fit enough for this game.
