THE summer temperatures are creeping up - and with muggy days and big drops of rain the fishing has been temperamental.

Rivers and lochs seem to switch on and off with some absolute red-letter days mixed in with blanks, even when there seems to be plenty hatching.

There are loads of fish getting caught on boat trips and off the shore, but also days ruined by wind and weed.

The saying “it’s fishing not catching” bears out. You can only fish when you can and, even when it's perfect, the fish just might not be on.

The fish of the week entries have been fantastic over the last month, we've got plenty to be targeting across Scotland and a fair shot on any particular day, but there's always the chance of a good day out with not a fish troubled.

If it was too easy maybe it wouldn't be as much fun to crack the code.

Summer grilse and sea trout anglers will appreciate the rising river levels.
