Mandelson failed security - but still got top US post

PETER Mandelson was appointed as the UK's “Trump whisperer” despite failing security vetting, the government has admitted.

Foreign Office officials took the step of overruling the UK Security Vetting so the ex-minister could become US Ambassador.

No10 insisted the PM was not told Mandelson's clearance had been denied before he was sent to Washington DC last year.
