'King' detained after police and immigration officers' morning swoop on forest

THE self-proclaimed king of an "African tribe" camping in the Borders has been detained with his handmaiden.

Kofi Offeh and Kaura Taylor of the “Kingdom of Kubala” were taken away in a raid by police, sheriff officers and immigration officers at 8am yesterday in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire.

It is understood 36-year-old Offeh, “King Atehene”, has been arrested for overstaying his visa but the nature of Taylor's arrest is not known. Jean Gasho, 43, aka “Queen Nandi” was also taken away.

The group, which has been camping in the area since May, recently moved to council-owned land after being evicted from private land nearby.
