Shannon speaks out in bid to protect others

A WOMAN who suffered "10 years of hell" at the hands of her violent ex has hit out at the justice system after the thug escaped jail time.

David Gillan, 29, pled guilty to domestic abuse against Shannon Muir, 27, between April 2019 and November 2024 but avoided prison at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on November 18.

He was handed 225 hours of community service, a community payback order with 12 months' supervision and a non-harassment order for two years.

Shannon said: "There is no real punishment and I believe he even thought he'd get away with it."

She is speaking out to warn other women after statistics published by the Scottish Government yesterday show a 22 per cent rise in domestic violence reports in the year to September. They also show a 64 per cent rise since 2021.
