QIRAT conjured up the biggest upset in British racing's modern era with a 150-1 victory in the Qatar Sussex Stakes.

With one quarter of the Group 1 mile test still to run, William Buick became agitated on 1-3 hotpot Field Of Gold, expected to follow in the prints of his sire Kingman by adding Glorious Goodwood’s signature race to triumphs in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes.

The favourite was a beaten horse, but the drama had only just begun.

Having shared pacemaking duties with 300-1 outsider Serengeti, Qirat, like Field Of Gold carrying the Juddmonte silks, and Richard Kingscote found themselves presented with a two-length lead entering the final furlong.
