THE pitch invasion at the recent Old Firm match was beamed around the world - setting back the reputation of Scottish football by decades.

There is no excuse for fans coming on to the pitch and the scenes shamed all those involved.

But tough words of condemnation are no substitute for clamping down on this behaviour at source and a route map was provided nearly a decade ago.

Back then, in the wake of the appalling pitch invasion after the Scottish Cup final between Rangers and Hibs, fans spilled onto the pitch and clashed.
