Reds hero Wes: Gers couldn't face my old club at better time

- ALAN GALINDO

GORY GORY MAN UNITED

RUBEN AMORIM dubbed his side "maybe the worst" team in Manchester United's history after watching Brighton bludgeon them.

And with Rangers heading to Old Trafford just four days later, former Red Devils stalwart Wes Brown has told Philippe Clement he's pitching up at the perfect time.

United's history is crammed full of league titles, domestic cups and European honours.

But 26 points from 22 games in the Premier League, including six defeats on home turf, leaves them languishing in 13th with that Theatre of Dreams fear factor a thing of the past.

They are in the hunt for the knockout rounds in the Europa League and have still got the FA Cup to defend.

However, on this form, Brown believes Gers can capitalise on the Red Devils' slump come Thursday night as both look to remain inside the top eight who go straight into the round of 16.

Asked if the Light Blues are facing United at the best time, Brown - who racked up 361 run-outs in all competitions for the club said: "I definitely think so, especially at home as well, coming after defeat to Brighton.

"We've really struggled to pick up the pace at home and I know for a fact with Rangers coming to Old Trafford, there is definitely pressure to win the game.

"We know how big the game is. It is not like we get to play each other all the time.

"It is a game where, as a United fan, you are looking at it and saying we still need to win to make sure we are going through to the next stage.
