ASYLUM SEEKER RAPIST IS JAILED FOR NINE YEARS

'Predatory individual' brought to justice after park attack on vulnerable teenager

AN Afghan asylum seeker, who claimed he was an escaped Taliban prisoner, has been jailed after raping a vulnerable teen in a park.

Rapualla Ahmadze was caught on CCTV walking the streets of Elgin, Moray, in the early hours of the morning before approaching his lone victim as she sat on a bench and subjecting her to a violent attack.

Judge Thomas Welsh KC told him at the High Court in Edinburgh: "You were unanimously disbelieved by the jury in relation to your defence of consent. What happened to her that night must have been a horrific ordeal."

He added he read a victim impact statement prepared in the case and noted the "shocking, overwhelming impact your violent, brutal abuse has had on your victim".
