THE discovery of a dead nest of the yellow-legged hornet near Wrexham - the first confirmed discovery of the insect in Wales ~ has led to renewed calls for vigilance against the invasive threat to pollinating insects.

‘The yellow-legged hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax also known as Asian hornet) comes - as the latter name suggests - from Asia and was first seen in France in 2004.

It has since been found in Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and England.
