READERS have been voicing their opinions on Anglesey's proposed changes to black bin collections, with a clear divide in sentiment.

- By DAVID PRINCE

As reported in yesterday's Daily Post, Anglesey County Council is preparing to launch a public consultation on suggested alterations to its waste and recycling collection service, which could lead to monthly black bin collections.

At present, the council empties black bins every three weeks, but this could shift to a four-week cycle as part of plans to increase recycling rates.

The council is also considering modifying the trolley box system to enable the combined collection of paper and card.

It is also considering supplying households with additional containers for extra recycling storage.

During its meeting on Tuesday, the council's executive agreed to start a six-week consultation.

The council is now encouraging residents to contribute their views via an online survey after councillors concurred that the consultation should commence on Wednesday, January 7 next year.

The Welsh Government has set a recycling target of 70% for local authorities, but the island only achieves a recycling rate of approximately 65%. Councils failing to meet the target may face penalties.
