Politicians wring hands but fail us in worst healthcare crisis of my lifetime

A COUPLE of weeks ago I was admitted as an emergency to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. I wasn't taken there by ambulance, but was driven to A&E by a relative after I experienced unpleasant symptoms overnight.

We arrived at 7.30am to find the waiting room half full and it was obvious that some people had been waiting several hours to be seen, but I was fortunate as my condition was regarded as being sufficiently serious for me to be triaged by a nurse within 15 minutes of arrival, and then being equally quickly whisked through to the Resus department.

I'm not going to go into detail about the treatment I received, other than to say it was extremely prompt and thorough. I spent three days at the hospital as a patient passing through three different treatment areas, and in each I was treated with great professionalism, courtesy and kindness by every member of staff I encountered.

From consultant doctors to ward cleaners I couldn't have asked for better care and attention to detail. I count myself as very fortunate to have received such prompt and excellent care.
