Police: We didn't tell shopkeeper to take down 'scumbags' sign

Rob Davies put up the sign at his Run Ragged vintage store after losing hundreds of pounds due to thefts.

Mr Davies said he had felt he had no choice but to inform customers why he had put much of his more valuable stock behind locked cabinets.

The sign said: “Due to scumbags shoplifting please ask for assistance to open cabinets. Thank you.”

However he claimed police then visited the store and told him to remove the sign because it is “provocative and offensive”. The trader said he was advised by the force to “reword” the signs which he said was “not happening”.

North Wales Police have now issued a statement about the situation, stating the shopkeeper was not asked to remove the sign, and stating they have “not been able to locate a report of an officer attending the store”.
