Plan to use playing field to extend village's cemetery

A FIELD historically used for football and dog walking in Overton has been earmarked for a 178-plot expansion to the village cemetery.

‘The patch of unclaimed land between the existing cemetery which sits on Church Road and St Mary's Avenue and the Overton and District Bowling Club is now subject to a planning application from Overton Community Council.

It wants to extend the existing cemetery, which has been in operation since 1901, to create 178 more burial plots and a new Garden of Remembrance.

‘The grass field identified for the extension is currently used as a community play area. It has a small set of football goals and is also used for dog-walking.
