Mother 'failed to protect Ethan from risk of serious harm'

Shannon Ives’ toddler Ethan Ives-Griffiths, two, collapsed and later died in 2021.

The two-year-old had fallen ill at his grandparents’ home in Kingsley Road in Garden City, Flintshire on Saturday, August 14, 2021, and died two days later at Alder Hey children’s hospital on Merseyside.

He was found with 40 marks and bruises.

His grandparents - Michael Ives, 47, and Kerry Ives, 46 - are accused of murdering him.

They and their daughter Shannon are also charged with causing or allowing the death of a child, and cruelty to a person under 16.

Yesterday, evidence by the prosecution and defence finished at Mold Crown Court on day 21 of the trial. In cross examination, prosecutor Caroline Rees asked Shannon Ives if she let Ethan down.
