Medics urge tighter air pollution controls

THE Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Cymru Wales has urged the Welsh government to adopt more ambitious targets to reduce fine particular matter (PM2.5) air pollution, warning that current proposals do not go far enough to protect public health.

The government is currently consulting on draft regulations that would:

■Reduce annual mean concentrations of PM2.5 in ambient air to a level of 10 micrograms per cubic metre by 31 December 2035; and

■Reduce average population exposure by 25% by 31 December 2035.
