JUDGE CALLS IT AN 'EXTRAORDINARY CASE'
A MAN stole a cricket club roller and threw bricks while being chased by police.
In what a judge called an “extraordinary” case, Leon Mitchell and an accomplice took the motorised vehicle and drove away for two miles.
They were pursued by one police car but when another joined it Mitchell drove towards it. The police car took evasive action and the roller crashed into a hedge.
Mitchell, 21, formerly of Connah's Quay but now of Parkgate Road, Mollington, Chester, admitted dangerous driving and other offences.
Jailing Mitchell for ten months, a judge at Mold Crown Court called it an “extraordinary” case.
Prosecutor Amy Edwards said between 1.30am and 4.30am on June 3 a “Tarmac roller” was stolen from Connah's Quay Cricket Club. Police got several phone calls about the incident.
It was spotted on Englefield Avenue in Connah's Quay with one of the two occupants apparently holding a bottle of wine. A police car drove up to it but the driver - Mitchell - failed to stop.
