Iconic beach to play role combating climate change

DIGGERS have moved onto a North Wales beach renowned for its towering dunes and iconic lighthouse.
A massive pit reinforced with sheeting piling is being built on the foreshore at Talacre, Flintshire.
The work is part of the multi-billion pound HyNet scheme to lay a new pipe network.
This will transport carbon dioxide (CO2) captured from industrial plants in North Wales and northwest England.
A 26km underground pipeline is to be dug linking Talacre with Elton, Cheshire, via Deeside. The captured carbon will be moved to a modified Point of Ayr gas terminal at Talacre, then piped under the sea to depleted offshore gas reservoirs in Liverpool Bay.
The Talacre part of the scheme was approved in November and, following checks for signs of badgers on the dunes, work got underway in February.
Two pits are being dug - one on the beach, another at the Port of Ayr terminal.
