HCC MARKET UPDATE: NEW SEASON LAMB UP AHEAD OF CHRISTMAS

THE New Season Lamb (NSL) SQQ deadweight average across Great Britain recorded a notable rise during the lead up to Christmas.

For the week ending 27th December, the average recorded a near 11p/kg increase on the previous week to stand at 711.7p/kg. This is over 20p/kg higher than year-earlier levels - an increase compared to the 10p gap during the previous two weeks. When compared to the longer term 5-year average, the current price is £1.30/kg higher. The number of NSL's forward during the week leading up to Christmas stood just shy of 22,000 head. This is 8% higher than the corresponding week a year earlier. When compared to the previous week of almost 44,000 head, this is a notable 51% decrease which is unsurprising due to the inclusion of the festive bank holida
