Welsh driver still leads WRC standings but rivals close in

Evans takes valuable title points on tough Acropolis

ELFYN EVANS saw his lead in the World Rally Championship reduced to nine points after finishing fourth on a demanding Acropolis Rally Greece.

The Dolgellau driver still heads the drivers' standings with 150 points after round seven, but Toyota team-mate Sebastien Ogier secured second overall as well as maximum bonus points in Greece to move to 141 points.

The event's rough and rocky roads, combined with searing temperatures of over 40°C, presented an extreme challenge for the GR YARIS Rally1 drivers and their tyres.

Loose stones and bedrock were a constant hazard on Friday's stages west of Athens, while the narrow and twisty roads in the mountains of the final two days meant even a small mistake would be heavily punished.
