Dragons retain strong interest in defender Ben

WREXHAM'S interest in Wales star Ben Davies remains strong despite Tottenham Hotspur opting to extend the defender’s contract, according to reports.

The defender's current deal was set to conclude at the end of June, which would have allowed the 32-year-old to depart on a free transfer from July 1.

However, Spurs have decided to prolong his stay by an additional year.

Wrexham, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have been strongly associated with a move for Davies following their promotion to the Championship.

At first glance, the decision to extend his deal appears to be a setback for the North Wales club’s hopes of securing him in the summer transfer window.

However, reports suggest Davies might still be permitted to exit in the coming months, provided a fair fee is agreed upon.

Davies is currently the longest-serving player at Spurs, having transferred from Swansea in 2014.
