Is value of statues out of balance with city's needs?

Daily News

|

March 19, 2026

WHAT would ANC struggle icons Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo have said about the statues that were erected in their honour in Durban recently?

Would they have suggested that the R22 million that was supposedly spent on monuments be diverted towards improving service delivery in a city that has apparently lost some of its lustre from the past?

Given the not-so-nuanced issues at play with the erecting of the statues, especially the use of public funds, the brouhaha and resulting mudslinging have been par for the course.
