Royal Mail delivers the 'postbox of the future'

Firm targets online parcels boom

ROYAL Mail is rolling out its postboxes of the future, which will allow customers to send parcels as large as a shoebox.

In a change to the iconic design, the 3,500 postboxes will feature a digitally activated drop-down drawer to accommodate parcels which are too large to fit through the letter slot.

The biggest change in 175 years was trialled in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire earlier this year, and will now be rolled out in cities across the country.

Key sites include Edinburgh, Manchester, Nottingham, Sheffield and Sunderland.
