Reform defector's Chagos 'hypocrisy'

NIGEL Farage's newest defector has been accused of hypocrisy after blasting the government's plans to hand the Chagos Islands back to Mauritius.

In unearthed letters, Andrew Rosindell wrote to then-Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab in 2021 warning that the UK's failure to give up the territory was undermining its credibility.

And a year earlier he wrote to Joe Biden saying the US must help “decolonise” the Indian Ocean islands.

But Mr Rosindell has lashed out after the government reached an agreement to return Chagos to Mauritian control.

At the weekend, he announced he was defecting to Reform, claiming the Tory failure to hold Labour to account over Chagos was a “red line” for him.
