Defender eager to step up comeback in Cup - but he's gutted for 'treasured' Endo

DEFENDER Joe Gomez has declared himself ready to step back into the Liverpool starting lineup but admits he is "gutted" Wataru Endo is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Gomez made his return after three games out with a hip problem when he replaced the injured Endo (below) at right-back midway through the second half of the 1-0 Premier League win at Sunderland on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old is now in contention for only his third start in two months for the FA Cup fourth-round clash at home to Brighton tonight.

Gomez had several weeks on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury during the Stadium of Light. Reds boss Arne Slot is braced for losing the 33-year-old for an extended period.

Gomez added: "I'm gutted for Wata. He's such a treasured part of this squad and we appreciate him so much.
