AIDAN O'BRIEN yesterday announced a transfer deadline-day swoop for Christophe Soumillon to use as a “world-class” super sub for the injured Ryan Moore.

Unless stable No2 Wayne Lordan is successful in his appeal against a 10-day whip ban, Ballydoyle will go into the St Leger Festival and Irish Champions Weekend without its main strike force. Ten-time champion of France Soumillon (right) is now a free agent after years as part of the the late Aga Khan's team.

He rode the O'Brien-trained Diego Velazquez to win last month's Jacques le Marois plus two Group One winners for the stable on Arc weekend last year.
