Just Grand...

DOWN a street in the East End of London last night walked two men in the blue overalls of the Auxiliary Fire Service.

Twenty-four hours before their presence would have gone unnoticed. But last night the people cheered—first a cheer that was almost shy, gradually growing into a full-blooded roar which brought the people from their houses to join in.

London, in a night, had found new heroes. The men of the Civil Defence Services had proved their worth. To them London owes a debt she can never repay.
