Draper throws up but wins on his return

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

JACK DRAPER threw up at the US Open again but this time held on to win in the heat of New York.

The British No.1 reached the semifinals here last year before he was sick on court as he lost to Jannik Sinner. He returned to the Big Apple to play his first match since Wimbledon wearing a compression sleeve because of a left-arm injury.

And the rusty No.5 seed faced a physical battle against Argentine world No.203 Federico Agustin Gomez who saved a match point in the third set tiebreak and hit 50 winners.

Draper vomited during the third set - and tried to clean up the mess on the court — before recovering to win 6-4 7-5 6-7 6-2 in just over three hours.
